Why did the illustrious French writer Stendhal give his name to this model?
Henri Beyle, better known by the pen name of Stendhal (born January 23, 1783 in Grenoble and died of apoplexy March 23, 1842 in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris), was a French writer, known in particular for his novels Le Rouge et le Noir and La Chartreuse de Parma.
It was in 1830 that Stendhal published "Le Rouge et le Noir" as a follow-up to a news item that had happened in Bagnères-de-Bigorre shortly before: L'affaire Lafargue/Sorel. Stendhal will be largely inspired by a crime of passion that took place a hundred meters from our shop with a 23-year-old murderer, Adrien Lafargue, who will benefit from the clemency of the Judges and will become a "romantic hero" for the general public.
